Workaround It worked after changing the following in C:\Users\YourProfile\Documents\Assetto Corsa Competizione\Config\controls.json. Find the "Controller (Xbox One For Windows)" string and the line "isGamePad". I changed the value from 0 to 1 and started ACC in VR mode again. The Xbox controller worked now!
Todo so: Press the Windows key to open the Start menu. Now, type Control Panel and open it from the search result. Open Uninstall a program > Click on the Assetto Corsa Competizione game from the list. Select Uninstall > Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.
ExtTMDec 3, 2020 @ 8:38pm. You can change it. Turn on steam's big picture mode > Library > Assetto Corsa > Manage Game > Controller Configuration > Change/swap the buttons as you see fit. However, if the game is not detecting your controller, then you need to untick "XBOX 360 Configuration" under the controller configuration. #1.

Try disabling Steam Controller in AC properties in your Steam Library (right click on AC>Proprties>Controller).
